Piccolo Basics
Every now and then I get some questions regarding piccolo: first of all, one of the best tips I can give you is to remember to place the instrument higher up on the lower lip: this allows the airstream to enter the instrument correctly, adjusting  for the smaller size of the aperture and the blowhole of the instrument. I usually play some long tones on the flute in the third octave to help my embouchure 'remember' how to use the smaller sized aperture without tension: this then is a good basic place to begin muscle memory as you build your piccolo embouchure.
